The My Boys series discusses the notion of power through the use of series, technique and setting.
Each portrait frames a unique individual within the confines of a shower. Captured in black and white with the use of overexposure eliminates the obvious differential characteristics of each subject while illuminating their similar qualities like body hair and skin tone, that make them all white males.
The Shower alludes to a cleansing or rebirth and death or isolation. When repeated in a series, structured to eliminate the dead individuality of the subject, the nude male seems vulnerable and new. Individuality is washed away in order to reveal the birth of a powerful open identity.
My Boys includes 6 photographs and one video (more videos are in progress) – all images/videos are exhibited at life size scale.
